How to Build a Garden Shed or Workshop Shed

Council Approval

Most councils now state that anything under 20 square metres does not require council approval. Any shed over 20 square does. If you are in any double contact your local council.

Garden Shed Accessories

There a re many extras such as windows, locks and skylights. None of these are included in the base price for a garden shed. Make sure the price you’re quoted is for all the options you need.

Concrete Slab and Flooring.

If your pouring the concrete slab yourself factor in the cost of a concrete truck and any tools (eg wheel barrow, screeds) you may need to hire. Alternatively, factor in the cost of hiring a cement mixer and a couple of barrows for the day.

Buy a quality Garden Shed

Like most things, you get what you pay for. A good quality steel garden shed will come with at least a ten-year guarantee. A good quality timber shed will return more than its own cost to the value of your house.

Beware of buying a cheap garden sheds that that use cheap imported steel. These shed generally supply very thin steel that will not last over the longer term. The money you saved initially will only be spent later on we you have to replace your garden shed.
